On the eighth day of Weebsmas, we’re bringing you the last of our many recommendation lists. Today, we’re looking at the lighter things in life. Today, we’re going to be giving you some comedy anime recommendations to bring the ho-ho-ho this season and brighten your holiday season. Here are our top five comedy anime recommendations.

Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan

One of the most surprisingly good comedy anime we have watched in recent years. This show is made for adults in the workforce. Uramichi Oniisan is the story of an ex-gymnast who works on a kids TV show as a host. The anime follows him and his coworkers and the melancholy of being an adult in a job you hate (most of the time). Uramichi is constantly teaching the kids real-life lessons with his own dissatisfaction with life. The kids are cute, the show is funny, its a great comedy through and through.

This is a a very specific title and honestly was barely nothing to do with the course material but it is a collection of funny side stories using the main and subcast of characters. It’s rolling on the floor, grabbing your stomach kind of funny. It’s batshit wild and you can watch it in a single summer day. For those that don’t know FMP it is about a high schooler with a unique gift the government wants to protect so they send a teenage soldier prodigy to be her bodyguard. She teaches him how to be a teen in return they end up in a on and off again relationship. This season takes place randomly throughout the series but mainly in the summer. I believe it might have been released as a summer special for the promotion of the next season.

I find this anime absolutely hilarious. I think it’s a lot funnier if you know people like this. This entire show is about guys that look really cool on the outside. They are attractive, they have quiet personalities that come off as ‘cool’. But this anime completely shatters the image of these cool guys by demystifying what actually makes them ‘cool’ – which is usually them being awkward, shy, forgetful, or some other aloof trait. All four of the ‘cool’ guys we follow are flawed in a variety of ways – they are really stupid but really cute all at once.

Many consider this anime to be hentai, but I compared to some of the crudness of 90s anime, I think it’s just pervy soft porn. It takes place in a fantasy world where a group of adventures of different species meet up at a bar and talk about how their going to relax then collectively decide that they are going to become reviewers of all the brothels in the country. I found it hilarious and a positive lens we don’t usually see in anime about sexual preferences and kinks.
Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is hard for Mobs

I really don’t know what to say about this one. It’s not bust-your-guts funny, but it is unexpectedly comedic. The entire premise is that a guy got isekai’d into a video game he played often. But instead of wanting to play out the game, marry his favorite love interest, or more, all he wants to do is live as one of the listless NPC characters. He is constantly thinking of how to not get involved in the plot and he tends to really hate it when he does get pulled into it. Yet he is constantly meddling despite trying not to. Which makes it even funnier. Every battle he can predict, every character he knows and knows how to defeat. But he only uses that knowledge if he has to. That’s where the humor mostly comes from. And for Star and I who don’t usually like isekai? That’s golden.
