Day 13 of Otakutober: Trigger Town 4: Paranormal Otakutivity

Here we are once again.

Welcome back to our 13th day of Otakutober and Happy Halloweeb! I hope you’re all ready to return to a place we’ve visited for Halloweeb past. For the past four years, it’s been the final destination on our journey into the spooking season. So buckle up, hunker down, and get ready for some truly disturbing things. Trigger warning: We’re returning to Trigger Town for some of the most disturbings things that we tried (unsuccessfully) to throw in the vault.

Hellsing

So admittedly, Star told me about this one so I’m going to do my best to summarize what she said. Essentially, there’s a couple who has been turned to vampires that are terrorizing and killing people in order to become stronger (or so they believe). There is one scene where they kill a family and then proceed to get off (sexually) in the house around the bodies. It’s like they’re getting horny by the death itself. The way the scene is cut is made incredibly disturbing and certainly one to throw in the vault.

Higurashi When they Cry

So we’ve mentioned Higurashi before but this time we’re talking about one of the most distressing scenes in the show. Now, this particular show put cute girls killing each other on the map for anime. So it’s deceptively cute until it’s gorey and murderous. In this particular scene it’s the result of two girls who love and care for each other very much and decided to kill each other instead of let each other go.

Mononoke episode 2

mononoke

Given this is a beautiful series that is nationally celebrated for representing Japanese culture by the embassy itself, it’s pretty fucked up in it’s own right. The moment I’m specifically bringing to light is the very first case in the story. Where the mononoke in question was a group of vengeful spirits of babies, aborted from their wombs through blunt trauma.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2

I wish I could just think of one thing from JJK season 2 but honestly the whole season deserves to be in Trigger Town. Literally everything in the Shibuya incident deserves to be here. I will try to avoid spoilers so I’ll just say things go really bad really fast to the extent that it honestly feels like the series is already at that point where all hope is lost. So many deaths. So much destruction. The entire Shibuya incident will fuck you up.

Oshi no Ko

Oshi no KO
Ai death

I can’t believe this didn’t make the list last year. One of the most shocking and disturbing things we saw in 2023 was none other than episode one of Oshi no Ko. The hour-long episode absolutely traumatized us when Ai gets brutally murdered with her kids on the other side of the door. Grimm Variations – While the entire season takes Grimm tales and makes them even stranger and horrific, the episode that really stuck with us is The Red Riding Hood episode. It stuck to the original plot of the story and Wolf gets what’s coming for him. For only someone who preys and destroys this much deserves a death as bloody and malicious as the crimes he was committing.

And thus the curtain closes on this fine Halloweeb night! Thank you all for joining us for another year of ghosts, ghouls, and glorious amount of gore-filled anime. We may not post often anymore but we truly love 13 Days of Otakutober and embracing all things wicked that go bump in the night. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did! If you missed a post, zoom on back to the intro post for easy navigating. Til next time~
