Hey! Here’s to another day of Otakutober! We’ve never truly dived into the environment of Japan and all that inhabits it, so why not now! (Especially with all the recent booming of tourism now that the COVID bans have been lifted.) Keep in mind, respecting the people and property is important if you intend on visiting these places.

Aokigahara Forest
Also known as, the Suicide Forest. It’s one of the most ominous and eerie forests in the world. At the base of Mt.Fuji on the North side of Japan. Due to the mountain side itself, it cuts off sound with the denseness of the trees. Some say that there is a miasma, or atmosphere, that lingers as a low hanging fog. The elevation makes it harder to breathe and once you step off the path it’s hard to find your way back. The forest itself gets its name from those who choose to buy a one way ticket there only to get lost and eventually take your own life. Luckily, there are rangers who patrol the forest and try to save those that get lost on the mountain.
Okiku Well in Himeji Castle
Most of you will recognize this is the well from, “The Ring”. I, Star, grew up hearing the story of the young girl who fell in to the well at Himeji castle hiding a broken dish. My great grandpa would tell me that you can still hear the clinking of the dishes around the grounds at night. Just for kicks, when I was a teen we stayed at a hotel pretty close to the castle itself. I didn’t know get sleep that night haha.
Sendagaya Tunnel near Shibuya
It is said that if you walk this tiny tunnel near Senju-in station and look up at the ceiling you’ll see a women with long black hair staring back at you as she hangs upside down, her clothes bloody. Many drivers who has passed through say it sounds as though things are falling on the roof of the car only to see that nothing is there.
Sengakuji Temple
This is the final resting place of the 47 Ronin. Which is quite a legendary story of 47 Ronin who vowed to seek vengeance upon their master’s death. Being that so many people died by mass Seppuku as punishment after doing what they promised. People say that you still see, hear and sense the vengeful spirits.
Sunshine 60 in Tokyo
Anything that starts with, “Well this was built on an old Prison”, is a sure way to get a haunting! This building in Ikebukuro Tokyo has had many sightings of ghosts and orbs that once were executed there. The unrestful spirits can be seen walking the halls at night. Now it’s a mall! And it’s thriving!
No other way to end the post other than to say, that we didn’t go into any of these places but even on our journey we definitely a few spooky experiences. Keep in mind, anywhere with this much history and with this much bloodshed you’re bound to witness a few ghostly visitors.
