Day 4 of Niji Nights: 5 More BL Recommendations

Hey welcome to the 4th day of Niji Nights! We’ve decided to give space to some of the Boyslove anime we have watched, appreciated and loved over the years. It’s kind of funny actually since we’ve mentioned these series but never made an official recommendation list. So, here we are! I, Star, will also link supporting blogs to some of these anime in the case anyone is confused to why we’ve included them here on the list.

Cherry Magic!

So for those of you that watch live-action Boyslove movies, you’ll find this one on Crunchyroll. But it originally started as a manga and evolved from live-action to anime series. This is a cute office romance between a 29 year-old virgin who turns 30 and received his wizard powers to read minds only when touching them. Upon accident he discovers one of the most popular male co-workers in the office has the BIGGEST crush on him. Being the awkward person that he is, he tries to navigate these feelings but finds himself more and more intrigued and confused. It’s a fast-paced whirlwind that will have you at the edge of your seat, haha.

Sabikui Bisco

Honestly, I’m not sure how to begin with describing this anime. It’s an action-packed series involving an outlaw, a doctor, and a whole lot of mushrooms. These two unlikely protagonists find themselves in the middle of a political war, hiding from the law and traveling a vast wasteland. We watch as they grow a beautiful relationship from strangers to something more than friends.

The Faraway Paladin

So, this is your classic fantasy… Sort of. It’s an Issekai of a person who died in our modern age and gets reborn as an infant orphan abandoned at a temple. He was an interesting and warmwarming upbringing with three very different ghosts as parents. When he leaves he begins his journey of winning favors of Gods, saving towns, fighting monsters and making friends. So naturally it’s a Lord of the Rings fanfiction with an underlying question about Legalos and Aragorn being more than friends…

Sasaki x Miyano

This is a slow-burn romance where two boys who go to the same high school find a hobby in common, reading Boyslove manga! The two of them explore their own sexualities and complexities, navigating school, friends, and love. This series was also a manga and covers a little more of the friendships they have in school while the anime focuses on their story.

Mo Dao Zu Shi

This is a series that needs almost know introduction. It’s considered one of the great Chinese Boyslove stories of this decade. First beginning as a novel on textnovel.com till it became popular enough to be published! The journey was brutal and amongst many Homophobic laws, the author had time being recognized and compensated for her work. But, as her story grew bilibili made it an anime with two season with a light-hearted retelling in a chibi season. After the rise of an even wider scope it was made into a live-action on Netflix by a different name, The Untamed. For those of you who are new to the series it follows a man who is called back from the dead into a new body to seek revenge. In the process, he’s confronted by people from his past and reunited with an old friend who’s been harboring feelings since before he died. The storytelling is unique as we follow the frame story and plot with the inner story of the past. There’s twists and turns in this Wuxia world, that keeps the audience guessing as they uncover a sinister plot and slow-burn romance.

Alright, thank you for letting us share with you some truly endearing stories about friendship, anguish, trust, jealousy, mourning and most of all Boyslove. Hope to see you in the next one!
