Niji Nights day two is here and where Star introduced you to more LGBTQIA+ webtoons yesterday, today I’m going to be sharing with you some other reading recommendations. Instead of webtoons, I’ve got some manga recommendations (after all, manga was my first love). So for all you GxG lovers out there, here are five Girls Love manga I recommend you pick up a copy of or pirate from the web and read this summer!

Nana – While technically not advertised as a girl’s love manga, Nana is certainly a story about love between girls. Whether you read it as love between friends or love being something more, it’s certainly been known to some as a classic GL manga. Growing up, it was one of the manga that really felt like it ignited people’s sexual awakenings. This manga though isn’t for the faint of heart as it’s very drama heavy with what I would call some darker themes.

The Guy she was interested in wasn’t a guy at all – Admittedly, I’m not too far into this one yet but it’s already got me in it’s hold. I started reading it because it was popular, but once I started I totally get why. It’s about two polar opposite girls who both love music. One of them mistakes the other for a guy, but they both end up falling in love. When the truth comes out, both find themselves conflicted but the relationship only grows. There’s something really charming about this story. I get why people like it.

Citrus – I’m sure many of you have seen or heard of the anime adaptation of this one. And while I know the anime was kinda controversial, I promise the manga is way more nuanced and carries the story a lot better. It’s definitely worth the read.

Girl Friends – So my favorite thing about this classic manga is that this is actually just a typical love story. While some may call it boring, I find it endearing. This is the story of two girls who become friends and eventually grow that friendship into a much deeper and romantic love. It’s so stereotypical but it just hits so right when reading it–like any good school romance should.

Sheep Princess in Wolf’s Clothing – Honestly I just find this manga endearingly cute. The main characters are both cute in their own way, the sheep princess is surprisingly the forward one who is pretty persistent about getting with the wolf butler, and their dynamic is adorable. I also think the artwork is absolutely gorgeous and it’s definitely worth the read.
