Day 12 of Otakutober: Honey-Boo, Bae, and Eyepatch-Kun! Star’s experience through Thriller – Deadman Wonderland review

Hey all, it’s another day of Otakutober and we thought it would be fun since it’s completely overdue, to do a review on Deadman Wonderland. So I’ll, Star, start by saying that we used to watch this show yearly around Halloween because it’s…funny haha. I’m sure some people would find this show disturbing but it’s honestly just unnerving and the dub is pretty amusing.

So reasons why I love this anime, although it never got a second season we could only imagine what the rest of this series could have been, some of us -coughLunacough- went to the manga to find the answers. (It didn’t help much.) The plot (gimicks) and the characters.

The Plot

Is wack LOL. The beginning is crazy. Which is just a fun way to get to the point. It’s honestly one of the fastest plot devices I’ve ever seen. In the first 5 minutes we’re actually exactly where we need to be for the plot to progress. From that point on, it was showtime. Quite literally. The fact that one tragic incident made him a criminal and landed him in the highest-grade prison. Which happens to be an amusement park made for sadistic games involving the death and gambling of other criminals in an all-out competition of survival of the fittest that runs on candy.

The Characters

To be honest, I never took the time to memorize any of their names. Each criminal were either normies or humans with special abilities. So instead, I called the main cast by pet names I found myself saying the most when they were on screen in relation to the main character. Memorizing their names wasn’t very important since I wasn’t sure how long it would be till they died. Much like Squid Games, Hunger Games, Attack on Titan characters are fleeting and they all come from different walks of life but then they all go a little crazy.

Honey-Boo

Bae

Eyepatch-kun

Zero/Shiro

That crazy bitch

The little girl

The guitarist

The other one

There’s not much I can say without giving it away but if I had to pick an occasion I would pick a halloween party with some weebs. It’s gorey and gruesome but amusing for all the wrong reasons. Happy viewing!
