If there’s one thing that I’m always thinking of in the back of my mind, it’s the Apocalypse. In particular, the Zombie Apocalypse. Being a kid growing up in the looming era of 2012 (aka the end of the Mayan calendar) a lot of our conversations were about how in the world we’d survive the inevitable apocalypse. In particular, the zombie apocalypse. One of the most common conversations was about who we’d choose to be on our zombie apocalypse team to up our chances of survival. From friends to celebrities to characters, we’d choose extremely carefully. This made me start to think…if I had to choose anime characters to be on my Zombie Apocalypse team…who would they be? Especially if I only chose from recent anime? I did some thinking and here’s my team makeup.

Mikey Sanchiro (Tokyo Revengers)

My first choice would absolutely be Mikey from Tokyo Revengers. The leader of the Tokyo Manjin gang is honestly the best for warding off many kinds of zombies. He can take on entire gangs, can take a beating (if you can touch him), and dodge like crazy. I’d take Mikey with a bat as my lead on who takes on the big fights. He’d really hold down the fort.

Miorine (Gundam Witch of Mercury)

So, in reality, Miorine isn’t really a fighter. HOWEVER, tactically she is brilliant. If I needed someone to help me set up a society and grow food to actually sustain life in a base, Miorne would be my first choice. She’d also probably spend time studying old technologies and figuring out how to utilize them for our benefit despite the apocalypse.

Drac (The Zombie Dies in No Time)

Okay. This might seem like a pretty useless choice but the reason why I’d pick Drac is for #1 comic relief, and #2 because I don’t actually think vampires can be affected by zombies. He’s already the undead so I feel like if he gets bitten then nothing happens? He’ll just turn to ash. But maybe I’m wrong. If I’m right though, he’d make an excellent meat shield.

Chisato & Takina (Lycoris Recoil)

While Chisato and Takina aren’t super amazing, they have one skill that other anime characters don’t have: the ability to survive. Sure in hand-to-hand they might not be as good as Deku, or maybe they don’t have cool powers like Gojo, but they can persevere. I’d take them in a heartbeat on my team.

Kana Fuji (Healer Girl)

Okay, I know this one seems useless but she REALLY isn’t! Every group needs a healer, and Kana would be it. I know we’d have to protect her, but she’d be worth it. Her heart, determination, skill, and ability to heal with her voice would come in handy. Hell, she might even be able to fight the infected with her healing. But even if not, at least her voice would be pleasant amongst the end.

Undertaker (86 – Eighty Six)

The last person I’d want on my team would be Undertaker. He’s seen war already. He’s been in it–lived through it. While I wouldn’t necessarily want to put him through it all over again, I also know that he has the will to live through it. If anything, I think we’d need him. Undertaker knows how to survive, how to fight, and most importantly–together our team would likely survive. Or at least survive longer than most people.

My team definitely isn’t perfect. I’m sure I’m missing a few key players in here, but I think this group would actually help me survive if ever I found myself in a zombie anime. Would they be the best group? No absolutely not. I think it’d be such a weird combo of characters, but I do think it’d be entertaining–and most importantly, my best bet at survival. We’d be each other’s best bet at survival. But I’m curious who you’d all pick for your zombie apocalypse team? Would you for the smart characters? The powerhouses? Let me know.
