Summer Anime to Look Forward To

Welcome back to Otaku Thursday! Today we’re going to be talking about the summer anime to look forward to in the coming weeks. After the disappointment of a season that was known as Spring (no shade to the shows in the season, there just weren’t a lot), Summer promises to be more abundant, with some of the series that were on hiatus/delayed making a comeback for the summer heatwaves! So here’s some of the anime I’m most hyped for this season.

Sword Art Online: Alicization — War of the Underworld Season 2

Sword Art Online: Alicization Season 3 Release Date, Watch English ...

This feels like a forever in the process kind of thing, but SAO: Alicization will finally come to a close with this second war of the underworld season! I feel like this anime has been going on for literal years (it has, hasn’t it?) So I’m very excited that the finale will finally be arriving on our doorsteps. While, unfortunately, we probably won’t be seeing my fave this season, I look forward to whatever BS way that Kirito jumps back into this for the final arc! Totally read to Link Start.

Fire Force Season 2

Fire Force season 2 release times: Funimation and Crunchyroll ...

I don’t really have much to say about this one. We all already know that Fire Force season 1 was awarded best action anime last year. I enjoyed the first season. I will probably enjoy the second season. I am fully expecting another banger opening. What more can I say? Once again, this is probably going to be a great summer anime (it did come out in the summer last year too right? Much respect if so.) Here’s to a hopefully great round two (also fuck–there are going to be so many second seasons this year, the anime awards are going to be hard).

The God of High School

The God Of High School' Is A Love Letter To 'Dragon Ball'

This looks good. That’s kind of my impression of it right now. This, like Tower of God, is based on a webtoon that is getting adapted into anime. Tower of God was pretty good, and I’m currently obsessed with webtoons, so I think that means this will likely be a success, right? This seems like it’ll be a tournament anime that involves martial arts (kinda gives me Yu Yu Hakusho vibes), so I think I’ll like it. It’s been a while since I watched a REALLY good tournament anime, so let’s get at em boys. Let’s see what The God High School can offer. ALSO, it’s a MAPPA production…and we know how I love my MAPPA.

Deca-Dence

So this is supposed to be like post-apocalyptic in the sense that humanity is past the point of extinction. That sounds great for these current times. Anyway, this sounds like a pretty typical action/sci-fi show, which we love, so why not? This is def on my list to watch. The trailer also looks great for it so it piques my interest more than a typical sci-fi. It’s very atmospheric in what I can see from the trailers, and the dynamic between the two main characters looks like it’s going to really carry the story. I’m looking forward to it.

Fugou Keiji: Balance:Unlimited

The Millionaire Detective - Balance: Unlimited Anime Impressions ...

So this actually started last season, went on hiatus, and is coming back for summer season. I must admit that while it originally didn’t interest me, the opening really piqued my interest. I am a fan of good “mystery” shows that feature crime solving and detective work, so I’m down for this. Plus add in a wealthy man vs. the good nature detective? Fuck yes sign me up. This is going be a beautiful ride I feel, and it has a lot of room for what I hope will be character development. Also, for some reason I’m getting the “If Jumin and Zen teamed up to be detectives” vibe from this.

Digimon Adventure PSI

AHH. I literally did a First Impressions for this last season right before it went on hiatus. Anyway, it’s back. So, just like last season, I am waiting to see if this builds onto the Digimon lore in a meaningful way or if it ends up as just a rehash of old ideas. So here’s to hoping Patamon and Takeru don’t go breaking my heart (again).

Fruits Basket Season 2 (second half)

Fruits Basket Season 2 second cour visual : anime

Lastly, we have Furuba coming in with it’s final 12 episodes of the year! This season has been absolute perfection so far and I know some of my favorite story lines are coming in this latter half of the season. I’m so ready and beyond psyched for this continuation!

Well, I didn’t have much to say about each, but now you know what I’m super looking forward to this season. In addition, we’ll have a few movies coming out towards the end of the season that I think we should get ready for. Given is supposed to hit the big screens in August in Japan, Violet Evergarden will be releasing in early September, and Umibe no Étranger will also be releasing in early September. With all good things on the horizon, this summer’s anime should be great! What titles are you looking forward to? I’m dying to know! Til next time~

Stay weebtastic

xoxo
