Hello and welcome to 12 Days of Weebsmas! We’re officially at the first day of this festive celebration of all things weeb! This year, we’ve decided to gift you all with some of our favorite posts to share – recommendation lists! Today, on day one, we’re gifting you a neatly wrapped list of our favorite drama anime. So if this winter season you’re in for a dramatic time, here are five anime we highly recommend.

If you like art, you’ll absolutely love blue period. This anime involves a boy, Yatora, who discovers his love of art and joins the art club. We then follow Yatora as he pursues his new love of art, honing his skills and aiming to apply to a prestigious art university. The drama here generally revolves around he and his friends in their pursuit of art and falling in and out of love with the craft. I personally felt this drama hit me hard on a different level than other drama’s, simply because a lot of it comes from his struggles as an artist.

At the time, I was the only one who was watching this show. So all I kept doing was telling all my friends about it haha. But maybe I’m a little biased because I love Cirque du Soliel, it was incredible to see my favorite worlds collide. I do find this story endearing and inspiring when it comes to following your passions. It’s got a little bit of magic but all the talent is hers. It’s an underdog story about a hardworking optimist who achieves her goals against all the odds by sheer energy and efforts.

This anime isn’t very popular but I will NEVER stop raving about it. This drama/fantasy focuses on a girl who is color blind. She has no friends, and comes from a magic family where her grandma always tries to encourage her that life is beautiful. The girl, Hitomi, ends up in the past with a younger version of her grandmother. In the past, Hitomi meets a boy whose art she can see in vibrant colors. The drama deals heavily with Hitomi learning what it’s like to make real friends and fall in love, using magic to highlight the beauty, and using the art aspect to create breathtaking sequences. I find this story truly beautiful through and through–certainly filled with drama, sad, happy, and everything a good anime should be.

If you like cute girls, aquariums, and some pretty heavy drama, I’d recommend watching Shiroi Suna no Aquatope. This is about a girl named Fuka, an ex-idol, who movies out to Okinawa for a change of pace. There she gets enamored by the local aquarium and meets Kukuru – a bright young girl who helps run the aquarium. The two create a strong friendship (possible relationship) as Fuuka learns about Kukuru’s life, the importance of the aquarium, and begins to truly love the work she does. This series starts out fluffy and gets more dramatic the longer it goes on, with the latter half being very drama heavy.

This is one of the more moving and beautiful anime I’ve ever seen. I love suggesting this one for those that love a heartwarming story. It’s a literal metaphor about people being as different and beautiful as a bouquet. But there’s so much to this anime that stays with you even after you watch it that makes it so great. Now, this is an emotional ride, many have cried and many will to come.
Thanks for tuning in for our first recommendation list for day two of 12 Days of Weebsmas! We’ll see you tomorrow for day three of Weebsmas where we’ll be coming at you with even more recommendations in case drama anime just isn’t your thing. Until then,
xoxo
