Day 10 of Otakutober 2025: Horror Otome Games- Mechat

Welcome to another day of Otakutober 2025! This is our annual otome game post! This time we dived into a rather popular Otome game on mobile. So it’s all an app. Which isn’t surprising since there has been a rise in app-related otome games since Mystic Messenger. We thought it was about time that we talk about some of them at some point and this one caters to a specific fantasy with mythical creatures and lore. So what better time to bring it up! It’s been one year of playing, 18 character plots later and this is what I gathered. Warning: some of these images are NSFW.

Given that Mechat ‘s interface is designed to resemble a dating app, the player would swipe for the characters and stories they would wish to start flirting with. Some follow the plot that the play was in fact texting the character in their everyday life, have that be intense or spicy. But like in true Otome game fashion, the player has options to choose from as responses to their messages.

Until you hit the pay wall of course. Pay walls, are only for popular characters. The ones that most people swipe on and the ones that seem endless honestly. The plots from what I could tell. Unless this was a longtime player there was no way that the player would reach the end of the story unless you paid for more gems to continue. But there was evidence that the player could catch up with the writer (yes there are REAL people writing these stories) by viewing in the character’s profile how many more pics the player could reveal. The app also cares about what their readers want so if the player chose to ghost a character, you are asked why with options like “didn’t like the art”, “didn’t like the story”, “other”, and “no particular reason”. Of course I stuck it through for the sake of the blog but I did remove characters that weren’t mythical creatures.

Most of the time the player could survive on 60 gems but as the plot thickens (and I continued playing) 60 gems a date became 100. When it came to dates, there would be more responses and if you couldn’t pay, it would cut the date short. The player would essentially lose out on more interactions with the character. But some choices lead down interesting branches that sometimes made for a more compelling story. But it is mainly in the eyes of the player. But holidays often revealed new characters that spoke to the holiday and perhaps there would be a time when these characters are released for free. But of course gems cost money but if you are patient you can make it pretty far without paying a cent. Watching ads and only playing when you’ve built up gems is the best strategy but if you have an addictive personality you will end up spending the money for SURE.

Optional switch
Swiped on a counterpart

One of the best aspects of the game allowed you to change the physical appearance of the characters. This feature can be found in their profiles but it can also appear when you swipe on the same story but different counterpart. Which honestly, must have been an interesting challenge for some writers to leave physical descriptions out of their storytelling (which is part of the dates). On that note, sometimes the descriptions and actions were a bit off of the player, but the writers often left gender descriptors out of the storytelling to cater to everyone regardless of the gender identity of the player.

Speaking of appearances, there were quite a lot of monsters and creatures to choose from. I found a dragon person, a dragon rider and an actual dragon. It gets pretty niche. Like most stories there were also genres similar to those you would find on fanficitons like: slow burn, friends to lovers, close proximity, forbidden love, enemies to lovers and so on. One of the most interesting plots I found was with a polyamorus relationship where two character new each other and added the player into their pre-existing one.

Sadly, they seemed to be using a body template so there wasn’t much of a change when it came to the body type of characters unless they were incredibly different characters. But also, the writing is way spicier than the in-game characters. But when it came to the individual pictures sent to you in the chat, those could be pretty spicy. So if you are a reader of any kind that likes a plot that is intriguing and spicy you can find them here. If you are okay with ecusing some commas and repetitive expressions from the characters, and no real high-stakes choices than you would probably have a good time.

And that’s all I got! Have fun playing or not haha.
