Day 1 of Niji Nights: Raise the Colors! LGBTQIA+ Webtoons

Welcome to the official day one of Niji Nights! This month for pride we have more recommendations, more musings, and more love for everything under the rainbow. Today to kick things off, we decided to start out with a post we know (and love): webtoons. Specifically: LGBTQIA+ webtoons. Webtoons is a beautiful website/app that features comics that celebrate all kinds of people and love. Star and I are avid readers of many webtoons, and we find that it’s a platform that really gives artists and readers the freedom to represent people and be represented. We’ve highlighted other LGBTQIA+ webtoons in the past and you can find those post here, here, here, and here! But for now, here’s our updated list for 2024!

Luna’s Recommendations

RAINBOW!

A cute comic about a curvy girl who has a huge imagination. Boo has troubles at home and escapes in her creative mind to make her mundane life magical. She begins to get closer with a girl who also has troubles at home and the chemistry between them is undeniable as they learn to rely on each other.

I LIKE MY BEST-FRIEND

A pretty straightforward story about a girl who is in love with her best friend. She thinks her friend would never fall for her–but it’s pretty clear to the reader that her best friend is in love with her too. A fun detail about this is that the MC is an artist drawing a GL comic and her ‘boss’ also has some romantic troubles in her past.

Shooting For Your Heart

Very similar to the last GL recommendation, this one features a boy in love with his best friend (who always seems to have a girlfriend). This comic takes a turn for the interesting though when the main character wishes on a star to be a girl so his best friend would fall in love with him–and then on some magic star, that wish comes true. Girl during the day, boy at night, MC finally has the chance to get with his best friend…but of course it’s never that simple.

Star’s Recommendations

My Beast is an Idol?!

It’s by the same person who does Crescendo and in the same universe as the other comics. It’s also a past love story romance so it’s really entertaining.

Fanboys

This is a cute college romance about an artist and a writer. They tackle young adult dating since it’s in a college setting with people who change identities and discover sexualities.

My Four Husbands

This is a harem. It features a woman who has four husbands. It’s a one-shot, episodic comic so every episode is about a different situation about being married–but to four husbands. It’s a little raunchy but it’s funny and cute. A good comic for the poly community.

Hope you enjoy some of these recommendations! Stay tuned for Niji Night number two!

xoxo

Luna
