Welcome to the first day of Niji Nights 2025! I, Star, have been really excited for this post this year! There have been quite a few Webtoons that I finally joined in on and I’m OBSESSED.

Nevermore

I don’t know why I didn’t start this one when it came out! I feel like this was a really challenging theme and it was executed brilliantly! When dark poetry meets lesbian romance you have Evermore. There’s many homages to Edgar Allen Poe’s works as well as some stylistic choices using similar Tom Burton-ish art. With the underlining message “what happens after we die” it’s honestly a fun mystery.
Osora

I’ve honestly never felt more seen as a non-binary person. Given, we all have our own history and background I felt myself relating to a lot of the cast. In this story, the readers follow the life of Osora, a prince on his self-discovery journey with love, relationships, gender identity and sexuality as he battles the responsibilities of being royalty in a time of war.
Forget me now

The art is so gorgeous in this thriller, mystery about a young man who loses his memory of who he is and tries to retract his steps only to be sent back into a loop of the same day by brain aneurysm.
Cinderelle

I binged so much of this series in one night. I found it to be a really cute rendition of the Cinderella story with POC and Queer representation. In a lot of ways, you’re not sure if you’re reading a rags to riches plot or a afterstory AU if Cinderella never got the Prince or in this case, Princess. Our main character is a lot of fun to watch as her passionate fire to save her best friend lands her in some sticky societal situations when she teams up with an ex-pirate looking for revenge on the Princess’s betrothed.
Vast Cerulean Sea

This comic says so much with so little words. Visually it’s captivating as it tells the story of a woman who falls in love with a merperson by the sea. It’s truly a “love is love” story crossing species lines that feels like symbolism of gender expression.
Promise me nothing

Honestly seemed like a common plot but the storytelling really had me. It’s about a man learning to live with his trauma from a rather neglectful and abusive ex-boyfriend when he meets a man who couldn’t be further from the type of guy he’s attracted to, especially since he’s annoying and straight. One drunken night, things change and they are both left trying to define what they mean to each other. And all of this is a precursor to their love story. Oh! Did I mention it’s French? Haha
Unnie I like you

If this was a K-drama I would pause my life to binge. It’s a rather hilarious concept of a past life story where a man and woman fall in love beating the odds in medieval Korea to be reincarnated in the modern day as two women. But the kicker, is that only the man remembers the life they once had. Now as a woman, he dedicates his life to finding her again.
Love Bites

This was everything I wanted in a Vampire x Werewolf story. So many live action shows have shown this concept before (even as queers!) but I still found this one to be the most addictive. Their hate to love tug-a-war battle is the most entertaining and nerve-wracking thing to read haha.
Eyes on me

Well. I’ve been reading this one a long time and I think it’s finally nearing the end. But this raunchy story is about dedication, commitment, trust, and patience. As one fuckboy changes his ways on a dime when he falls in love with a traumatized introverted nerd. You watch a slow burn as they navigate consensual physical and emotional contact and friend group drama.
Moonstruck

The best way to describe this story, it’s a series of shorts about two bored vampires. They let you in on their open relationship as immortals. It’s sexy, provocative and funny at times. The artwork is reminiscent to old 90s shoujo so I’m totally in love lol.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my recommendations and give these webtoons a go this year! If you have suggestions, put it in the comments I’d be happy to check them out! (Because obviously I’m addicted to indie romance comics, especially the queer ones haha.)
