Day 7 of Doki Doki Days: Love and Deepspace Review

Hey welcome to the final day of Doki Doki Days 2026! I, Star, have put myself through yet another Otome Game and this one, wow was I not ready. This game was genshin meets Sims meets Classic Otome equation. And because I could probably write a gameplay guide book on the app let me tell you what kept me playing…

Overview

I’m going to be very honest with you all. This is a thirst trapping mystery game. I’m sure there are others that could be described the same but this was like entering another world. Like I had 5 Tamagotchi and they took turns being needy, playful, caring and tired. The script was so relatable (at least it was to me) and to think that this game has grown on me to the point where I look forward to it… It’s horrible I know.

The storyline

The plot is kind of ridiculous. Getting invested was probably the worst thing I could do for myself. Now, understanding the classic Chinese story plot with the theme of reincarnation because one of you (or both of you) die in the end, really helped me come to terms with this story structure. With every lifetime there are questions and when you receive the present out of order it kinda drives the curiosity with every memory you receive.

When you open the app

I’m not going to lie, for weeks it took me a while to get used to interacting with the Lads. At times they really felt like real people. Calling, texting, video chatting, and the topics were all relevant to what I experience on the daily. I’m convinced there’s an AI listening and bringing up topics that I’ve been talking about. Somehow that didn’t stop me from continuing to play the game. The Dailies, also known as, daily tasks are simple to do but navigating the app is a huge learning curve if you’ve never played a game like this one. There’s many menus, many scrolls, many selections that can make the whole process confusing.

The gameplay

There is an element of gotcha tied into the major objective of the game. Memories are mini scenes starring you and one of the Lads. They take place in different timelines and it’s up to you to piece together when and where they took place. The memories are categorized by 3-5 stars.

3 stars are used for grinding mostly by leveling them up and getting gems.

4 stars tend to be short scenes or just audio ranging from a script to read along and just voice (those just voice ones are…steamy).

5 stars are full blown plots. Depending on the seriousness they can be interactive or life and death love stories in a visual novel like fashion with voice acting and fully cinematic scenes.

And this…is how they get you.

Now of course they don’t just give them out, you have to GRIND for them. But this game doesn’t just have one form of currency because there are patchable mini games. Some permanent and some only appear with in-game events. But there are at least 5 forms of currency but can grow to 7 with events. Pink gems, Purple gems, crystals, sands, chocolates and it continues…

Events

Events are probably the major money grab of the game. I, like last time, only play to the point of a paywall but in this game you don’t miss out much by not paying. Infact, they reward hard work haha. (What I mean is, you can still get those memories even if you don’t pay but you have to be diligent and know your dailies. If you have enough materials you will find yourself pulling for a chance to get a 5 star. The bigger the event, the least amount of certainty you will get the 5 star you want. This game likes to tell you just how many pulls until you get a 5 star, which is taunting and helpful.

Battling

Then, there’s the battle mechanic in the game, as if playful date scenes and cinematic tragedies weren’t enough for you, they can join you in your job too as a hunter of monsters called Wanderers, that appear in energy field fluctuations all over town. For one character events, you can often get more than one themed 3-stars, 4-stars and 5-stars. Well, both 5-stars will get you a new battle outfit and weapon for you and the Lad.

If battle outfits weren’t enough, there’s outfits, accessories, and poses to collect. The more you level up the more interaction options you can have with each Lad individually. They even game rooms you can decorate with the plushies you win from playing crane games or buttons from playing cards. To go that extra level into delulu, you can decorate a scrapbook with photos you can take with them in a studio. And for the music nerds, you can collect the theme songs from every event.

The House

But by far, the craziest mechanic of this game is the Home patch. Where you decorate your dream home and the Lads take turns visiting you. You can interact with them just like you do playing the Sims. From causally playing the music from the game,  watching TV in your living room snuggling up to a Lad on the couch, taking a shower and gardening.

Conclusion

For those who are completionists this game is your kyrtonite. If you are a sucker for pretty, realistic animated men this is your guilty pleasure. If you ever thought “wow I’m bored” this will give you so much to do especially if your have the coin to spend. Although I loved my time playing the game I will never achieve the VIP level where the creators and developers of the game send you a physical box in the mail with real life versions of the plushies, buttons and letters from each Lad. The level of satisfaction of all the grinding will be enough to erase my serious need to know more answers in the plot holes for just a little while…

PS

I did my best not to spoil you in my screenshots but I did capture my personal favorite moments and the spiciest I’ve had the luck to receive. Although this silver haired minx is not my all time favorite, I did however use him as the example since he is the first you get introduced to and I believe the devs themselves are shipping you the player with him the most. With that being said this is a LARGE package. It takes a lot of storage to play and update. I suggest playing on a tablet or iPad plus they become life-size.

I hope you heed all my warnings and play at your own risk. (I will probably keep playing… I still have questions! I may have to dig through reddit haha) If there is traction, maybe I’ll write a guide to grinding haha. Although I’m but a measley level 80 I am happy to share my techniques.
