Welcome, my friends, to the 2022 You Can’t Know WordPress Anime Awards hosted by yours truly–Luna and Star. I am incredibly excited to bring you over 48 hours worth of work and ENDLESS hours of anime watching in this year’s Anime Awards. Now, a little history if you’re new to us at We Be Bloggin’ : We started doing our own anime awards back in ye old 2018 because we just couldn’t get behind Crunchyroll’s choices. While we appreciate large titles, we really like to see newer anime from each year getting highlighted. Which is why I set out to create an anime awards that while, yes, is admittedly long, it’s also incredibly inclusive and spotlights as many anime as we can–and really as many as we can watch throughout the year. While I know we don’t cover everything that was released, we really do try our best to nominate as many as we can and think about them fairly without letting one title overwhelm the categories (no My Hero Academia here). This year we spanned 60 categories ranging from best of, to worst of, to fun moments, to random awards just for the heck of it!

2022 Best Anime of the Year
For anime of the year, we nominated our four best anime of the season as immediate contenders and then reevaluated the year of anime, watched shows we missed during their aired seasons, and chose an additional four to nominate. We then looked at each contender more carefully than before–assessing plot, music, animation, story, and characters to decide on our anime of the year. This year, our nominations are:
And the winner is…
That’s right, ranking in at number one anime of the YEAR is none other than Ya Boy Kongming! — a story that is just wacky enough to work. It has great animation, good opening and endings, a STELLAR OST and voice cast, and a truly heartwarming and inspiring story. We were huge fans of it when it aired, and at the time, we had almost given it the #1 spot for its season (the only reason I didn’t think we should back then was because we were really touched by the story of Fanfare of Adolescence). However, now as we look back–it really outshined the rest. So I’m incredibly happy it joins the ranks amongst fellow best anime of the year (such as Vivy: Fluorite Eyes Song).
