Hello and welcome back to — nope not Otakutober! We’re back to our normal schedule in this month of November and we’re back to Otaku Thursday. For those of you who did come along with us for our spooky countdown to Halloween, I hope you’re ready to depart from the creepy content. But even though we’re moving along from Otakutober, we’re still talking about last season. Because you know what post we DIDN’T get to before our festivities? Our top five anime of Summer 2022. So as we move into the fall anime, let’s start counting down our top five from the summer.

The first half of this show was great but the second half was AMAZING. Honestly, we were so invested in this–Star of course was predicting quite a bit of it as it resembled other anime she’d watched, but I personally was delightfully surprised by it at several turns. It had us on the edge of our seats the whole time. Great show.

This felt very much like an anthology-type show even though it had an overarching plot. It was a surprisingly calm show despite the chaos of the opening and ending songs–it felt like a rainy day most of the time. I liked my time watching it, it just wasn’t like we had to watch the next episode–it wasn’t gripping. Just a fun time.

We found this show absolutely hilarious. Maybe because we’re a little fatigued from isekai anime, this one was like everything we wanted. A man who had returned from being isekai’d and could still use magic. Honestly such a good premise. But what was better was how he acted when he was isekai’d–not even remotely into what was happening around him. Like he was so cringe-worthy. But it was so good.

2 ) The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting
SO CUTE. This show was unbelievably adorable. It was a breath of fresh air that only had a little bit of drama. but the drama was well-placed. We laughed, we teared up, we awwed at the cuteness. It was just such a good time. Let alone we both like yakuza stories–this was one of the most heartwarming ones ever.

1 ) Lycoris Recoil
And coming in at number one for the season was this amazing show–Lycoris Recoil. While we began this show unsure if we’d like it, it ended up being the best thing we were watching. The storyline was actually very intense. The characters and their relationships felt organic and real. And the climax of the show was actually filled with tension, beautiful and harsh sequences, and some tear-filled moments. Honestly one of the best surprises of the entire year.
Well, that’s it. Those are our top five anime of Summer 2022. We are confident with Lycoris Recoil moving to join our other number ones as nominations for best anime of the year. And we’ve already elected to nominate Summer Time Rendering as one of our four special nominations for best anime of the year as well. So thanks summer–you solidified not one but two selections! As for us, we can’t wait to continue watching fall anime to figure out what will fill our last seasonal spot for best anime of the year. Til next time though!
Stay weebtastic,
xoxo
