Hello and welcome back to Otaku Thursday! I hope that you all enjoyed our Niji Nights last week! Mostly because we really enjoyed writing Niji Nights. It’s honestly one of our favorite blog celebrations. But now we are returning back to another post that I personally enjoy writing each season–the top 5 anime openings! So here we go, counting down our top five openings from Spring 2022 anime.

5 ) Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs
I always have this song stuck in my head. It’s actually really unfortunate. The opening is pretty typical of an anime opening–there’s nothing special, the animation is only decent but the song is just too catchy. It has no business being that good but it just is. Much like most of the show.
4 ) Spy x Family

I really like this opening not just for the music but the stylistic choices. The blob-like drawings that are the highlight of the first half of this opening are so childlike. They are so bright and fun that’s really focused on the family. Then it becomes more anime-typical art style towards the end of the opening. They really put money into this anime–along with time love and care, and it really shows across the board.

3 ) Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
This anime opening is so wild in a way. I love how they show Shikimori and homeboy in multiple scenarios–Alice and Wonderland, detective–it’s so cute. I love the pastel colors and the soft lighting. The snapshots of all the characters and their daily life is also a nice touch–and Star’s favorite part of this opening.

I would never think this opening song would go with the opening animation. But it exists and it weirdly works. Which I can also say about me and this whole anime opening. So the interesting thing about this all is that it uses a lot of dark space–abstract arts and panels that fade in and out. It’s very visually cool–and a complete mystery of what the show will be about–which I really, really like.

And the best opening of the season is none other than Dance Dance Danseur! This opening is honestly a complete work of art. The song is pretty good–not the best song of the season but catchy regardless. But what really gets me with this opening is how unique it is. I love how we are seeing from the character’s POV and only seeing glimpses of themselves in the reflections. Then when we get to the ballet part, it feels magical and surreal as we finally see them all dance. It’s a bit of a trippy experience–almost dreamlike, but really well done. Truly worthy of best opening of the season.
Well, there you have it! That was our definitive choices for best anime openings of the season. I think it was a lot easier than we expected to actually pick our top five–even though there were a lot of good openings, these five stood out. And Dance Dance was a real front runner. It’s just so unique. But those are just our top five. What about you? Do you all have a top five? Let us know!
Stay weebtastic,
xoxo
