Welcome back to 13 Days of Otakutober! I feel like a weight has been lifted off my chest now that the otome post has been completed (and yet still I stay up until 2am, playing through the routes until I 100% complete one of the games). Today, Star and I thought we’d combine our efforts for day six! Today, we’re tossing coins to our slayers–here’s some of our favorite ghost, demon, and other paranormal slayers! Today, since Star’s computer wasn’t working very well, we decided to write this post in a unique way. I am typing what she says and writing my comments on the side. So all of Star’s thoughts are written plainly and mine are in parenthesis.

Allen Walker – D.Gray-Man
Hm. I love this man. Allen is one of those characters (white-haired) that you want to root for (like Light). He’s got a lot of energy, which makes him stand out from the rest of the exorcists of the Black Order. He’s flawed, which allows us to watch him grow as a character and as an exorcist (and spoiler alert: later not as one). I think he speaks to a millennial generation by trying to stay positive but in an honest way.

Tanjiro Kamado – Demon Slayer
(Tanjiro is not an amazing demon slayer–not but the slightest. However, I do think he has one thing a lot of others don’t, and that’s compassion. He never kills mindlessly. No matter what, he always still treats those who he slayed with respect as they pass away. Whether it’s holding their hand or simply placing a comforting hand on their shoulder. He gives them the humanity they lost. He’s one of the kindest slayers, and honestly is only one in order to save his sister. So, maybe he’s not amazing, but he is truly great.)

Yukio Okumura – Blue Exorcist
(Blue Exorcist, pretty much gives away their exorcists in the title. However, when thinking of the best actual exorcists in the show, I wouldn’t say Rin or the other students–after all, they ARE students. Yukio, though he is the same age as them, is like a legit exorcist. I mean, he literally is a teacher at their school. He really gave up a lot to become an exorcist and excel in it–which was just to be able to protect Rin from others and himself–should Rin ever be taken over by Satan. Yukio is a truly hardworking person, and though he probably doesn’t enjoy being a slayer, he takes it seriously.)

Satoru Gojo – Jujutsu Kaisen
Itadori is just. Special. But in this universe, Gojo is the strongest (the GOAT) because his power is OP. I think that being able to manipulate dimensional space makes him more powerful than housing parts of a king of demons (curses). His design however, is kind of boring to be honest (says the person who likes white haired characters) and I think they copped out by just making his eyes pretty.

Captain Maeda – Mars Red
(Captain my captain. How can you be in an anime that sucks this much?) Anyway, so this is one of those situations where the hunted become the hunters. But this doesn’t happen for him until the end of the anime. Before he turns, he has a tactful head on his shoulders. And that makes him a good leader. He also takes the time to train his squadron. Which is no minor task since all of them could easily kill him. He does influence his team to be a team. In the strangest of circumstances. So much so that they would sacrifice their own lives for him to live (terrible choice really).
Lina Inverse – Slayers
Lina comes from an anime called “Slayers”. But she doesn’t actually do a whole lot of slaying. In fact, she does all of her odd “slaying” for money. In the pursuit of becoming more powerful. But, she’s supposed to be hunting dragons, hence the treasure, much like the actual witcher (not as hot though). I just found it strange like a blog like this not to mention the one anime that is actually supposed to be about Slayers but isn’t. I sure do enjoy her adventures though. She makes slaying very funny.
And there you have it folx! The slayers who were in the front of our minds. We know there’s many more. Our brains are just kind of mush after playing (over 25 hours of 7’scarlet. And we still have more to play directly after posting this) that one otome game. Thanks for joining us for day 6 of 13 Days of Otakutober. Check back in tomorrow for day 7, officially one week into our holiday postings!
Stay weebtastic,
xoxo
