Day 5 of Doki Doki– Why we love 2D characters

Eeeeey, welcome to Day 5 of Doki Doki Days! I have the wonderful pleasure of explaining to you what nerds love and why we love them. It’s not just weebs this time!

Alrighty I’m just going to jump right in. We love 2D characters because they’re perfectly imperfect. They don’t effect our lives, they don’t hate, they can’t discriminate… But really they do, just in their own reality.

But really it’s eye candy. (But they have a crazy-hot scale.)

Anywho, what’s not to like about good art? Or good writing? Or inspiring stories ? It’s exactly the same thing as liking a character in a live action. For normies, I can see how being attracted to a 2D character can be alarming or unusual but honestly, people have liked MUCH stranger.

I think there are a lot of obsessed fans that take their love for celebrities too far but that extreme love comes from the same place for nerds. But not all love and obsessions come from a physically attractive point of view. In some cases it’s about the appreciation of the characters.

^Look at all these people who love him so much they wanted to draw him.^

Idolizing characters for their morals and values, their bravery or confidence in a way is easier to see what we could become. Think of it like an exaggeration of real people. The bar is set at a fictional standard meaning anything real will fall below the line. Sure that may raise some standards in the real world but is that what fiction does? It sells a dream and to me fictional characters of any kind are selling a fantasy.

And who doesn’t like to dream a little? What’s wrong with dreaming a little? Observing or becoming a character that inspires and lights a fire in someone is something to be celebrated. Maybe not something to obsess to an unhealthy level but a little respect never hurt nobody. Also when one’s blessed with a 2D character getting a live action adaption then I guess they don’t have to dream anymore. There’s no helping them now. (…Unless the adaption is terrible. Luckily mine wasn’t.)
