Day 6 of Otakutober: Trigger Town– Most Horrific Anime Deaths

Welcome back my witches and wizards of the weeberly arts! Are you ready to visit trigger town? Well, you are now! For day six of 13 Days of Otakutober, we’re going to be taking a not-so-nice walk down trigger town lane as we revisit some of the most horrific anime deaths! So if you aren’t down, now is the time to stop as we remember some of the most gruesomely fallen. It only gets worse from here.

No…but seriously. If you don’t want to revisit these, get spoiled, or see disturbing images again…turn back now.

The time for mercy has passed.

AMV NORAGAMI]-Ebisu - YouTube
Review/discussion about: Noragami Aragoto | The Chuuni Corner

Let’s start off with something lowkey: Ebisu from Noragami Aragoto. Now, maybe Ebisu wasn’t your favorite character, maybe you thought — wow he is having such a sweet, beautiful death sequence. But then–then it hits. LITERALLY. As Ebisu literally fucking explodes in Yato’s arms. And I mean blood everywhere–literally disappears into a fountain of blood leaving only his clothes behind. Which honestly? Was hella traumatic for me, who was like expecting him to just close his eyes after such a nice moment with Yato–NOT COMBUST INTO A FOUNTAIN OF BLOOD. I was so shooketh by this. It was super awful.

Devilman Crybaby: Season 1/ Episode 9 "Go To Hell, You Mortals" - Recap/ Review (with Spoilers)
Miki's last run [Devilman Crybaby] - YouTube

Shifting gears, most deaths in Devilman Crybaby was horrific and very disturbing. In fact I can’t pinpoint which death was the worst so I’m just going to give you two episodes, 9 and 10. There honestly wasn’t much to say because the shock factor was so intense. But there’s nothing like being ripped apart on a beach and parading around their body parts on stakes. I’d say it’s as bad as the red wedding from GoT but honestly this was worse. Especially after the characters have such a heartwarming moment between Akira and Miki. Then came episode 10. The epic conclusion as Ryo recalls this moment with Akira. Only for the audience to realize that the love he had for him was so twisted that Ryo was speaking to the now top half of the deceased Akira as if he were still alive.

Higurashi no naku koro ni (TV Series 2006–2013) - IMDb

In the same vein of horrific deaths here is the list of candy pop massacres that have truly caused some pain. Like Higurashi, Madoka Magica, and Another. Where there are too many deaths to count and each one was more gorey, horrific, shocking and disturbing then the last. It only felt right that we gave them a moment in this blog.

Official Deadman Wonderland Clip -- A Brutal Day at School - YouTube

Some anime aren’t horrific or necessarily ‘horror’, but have incredibly horrific moments. But one of the most triggering is the first episode of Deadman Wonderland. Particularly the moment where Ganta wakes up to his entire class having been MASSACRED. Honestly, this anime may be a near-comedy to me, but I was NOT ready for it to start like this. Like, poor honey had to be traumatically injured, wake up to spewed blood and corpses everywhere and THEN be framed for it. Yikes to the max. I would also like to mention the first episode of Elfen Lied where we were thrown into a bloody mess as Lucy destroyed everyone with her mind in her birthday suit. Some images never leave you. Especially these.

Episode 12 - Angels of Death - Anime News Network

Actually, ALSO on the images that never leave you–Angels of Death. Scene: Rachel’s memories. Rachel sees her father stabbing his already dead mother repeatedly, drenched in the mother’s blood. Rachel then shoots her father. Meanwhile, we’ve found out she had killed a puppy, sewed its wounds shut and was keeping its corpse in a box. Anyway, with both parents dead, she SEWS them together in a perfect family–replacing her dad’s mutilated arm with a stuffed arm and sewing her mother’s mouth into a smile. I have never been more disturbed before. Hell, this anime had shit tons of triggering sequences, but for me this is one of the worst.

AMV]~Psycho pass~terrible murder - YouTube

Some of the images that my brain has thrown into the vault, never to be revisited again was of course the very beautiful, very artistic, disembodiment of Shogo’s victims in Psycho-Pass. Being that he was one of the most intelligent villains in the series (and arguably for it’s genre and top 5 in my personal favorite list). His victims were sewn together in a Hannibal like style using flowers, and veins to adorn his pieces for Akane and Shinya to find.

Miche Zacharius (Anime) | Attack on Titan Wiki | Fandom

Similarly, most deaths in Attack on Titan are incredibly…gruesome…shocking? All meanings of the word terrifying? Yeah pretty much. I mean, anyone familiar with the show knows that it goes hard when killing off characters. First ep, we literally see Eren’s mother chomped down on by a titan. And we continue to see them rip off people’s heads, eat them whole, crush them to death, and more. But out of all them, one that will literally haunt me is Mike Zacharias who not just fucking loses his leg to titans, but then gets RIPPED apart by a group of titans, bit by bit. Like honestly this one makes me feel ill. Then there’s always Faye who was fed to the dogs in another horrific bout. Honestly, this author is a goddamn masochist.

And of course the most triggering death of all–the one that cut deep and that will forever haunt Star and myself. The one that is just the worst of all, that is the reason and inspiration for this post:

Nina.

Sorry for triggering you, but as we like to say here: join us in our suffering. If we had to remember these triggering moments then unfortunately so do you. And that rounds out day six of 13 Days of Otaktober! We officially have only a week left until Halloweeb! So don’t forget to catch up on the first five days if you missed any, and look forward to the remaining seven where we’re going to bring you even more weebtastic (but less triggering) Otakutober content!

Stay weebtastic!

xoxo

  1. My best friend introduced me to Attack on Titan 6 years ago (this was before I got into anime, mind you 😛). Anyway, we watched the first episode and after that I just nope’d out of there after the episode ended.

Even now I still have yet to watch the actual series given how wild it is; the only way I have been to is to watch Gigguk’s “Attack on Titan in X minutes” or the comical parody series “A Slap On Titan”.

    1. Yeah I can see why 😂 attack on titan first ep is totally brutal and it only gets worse from there. Sometimes I wish I’d noped out after ep 1.

Ahh Gigguk is a legend. I love his AoT in x minutes videos — so good !

      1. Agreed, he makes great recap videos for certain series that sum up the story well enough and makes sense in retrospect too! My favorite one from that series is the “Re:Zero In 8 Minutes”. Come to think of it, watching that was what got me into Re:Zero after 4 years of it in the air 😁

      2. He’s definitely one of the best anitubers out there. I really enjoy all his content. I actually sometimes use his anime in x minutes vids as ways to hype me up to watch shows sometimes (I did that with demon slayer).
