Welcome back to another day of 13 days of Otakutober 2026! We’re nearly halfway there which means there’s still so much on the way! In this blog, I, Star, will continue our recommendations list for what myanimelist.com calls the genre of Psychological Anime. Which means you’ll see some anime cross over into our Horror lists as well.
Erased
Erased is one of those thrillers that is a thriller not because you can’t predict what is about to happen, but rather because you can, and then it tricks you into thinking it won’t happen, only for the thing you predicted to happen. This anime is about a guy whose mother is murdered in the present and essentially goes back to when he was 11 where he has to solve who was committing a string of murders from his childhood.
Promised Neverland
One of my favorites on this list. It’s about a group of kids that try to solve a dark mystery as kids continue to go missing. Ultimately they decide to make a grand escape. It’s two seasons and the story continues in the manga.
Wonder Egg Priority
Is about a group of teenage girls who go on a self discovery journey into their psyche by fighting their traumas head on as they appear in a different realm personified.
Beastars
In a world where animals have more human like society, but separating the predators and prey by culture and discrimination, it’s an interesting visual essay on the primal instincts of love and fear.
Platinum end
Made by the same creator of Deathnote, this becomes another psychological scenario where angels give normal humans angelic powers to kill using a halo and wings to be able to fly. It’s a last person standing competition but the main character is a pacifist.
Here’s to more recommendations I can’t wait to add more!
