Hey everyone! Welcome to another day of Doki Doki Days 2026! I, Star, hope your lead up to Valentine’s day has been pleasant, slow and forgiving as we take a chance to reflect on your own love languages. In this post we talk about one of the chilliest of Dere archetypes, the Kuudere.
Kuudere is a play off of “cool” for their laid-back, chill, calming demeanor with a rather expressive introverted side. They tend to look as if they have their feelings in control often so well that the people who they like never see their feelings coming. In a lot of ways they observe from afar and choose their actions wisely when confronting their crush. They are often described as stoic and emotionless which can lead to the misunderstanding that they may dislike or hide their feelings.
Unlike the other Dere archetypes, you won’t see them freak out because they internalize it. But sometimes their tough exterior cracks and show signs of embarrassment or very direct behavior without being violent. They often keep calm in crazy scenarios and high intensity moments. Although they are cool, they can also dote on their crushes making them almost princely in nature. In a lot of ways they are masters at being cinnamon rolls that look like they can kill you.
Anyways I’m always happy to explain yet another Dere archetype. Especially when I get to highlight some of my favorite characters and males no less! All Dere archetypes come in all sexes and genders~
