Definition Explained- What is a Simp?

I feel like this one is necessary to explain. Welcome, to yet another definition demystifying post. Today’s topic… What is a Simp? I know many of you may have seen them and some of you may have dealt with a few in your lifetime.

Personally I’ve heard a lot of different things all circulating the term and what actions are defined to by these people. It’s all very interesting. -smh- But all sides can agree that simps and their behavior…is pitiful.

Someone who will say anything to please someone, particularly a girl, in the hopes that they will be in good favor with that person.

Frankly, I disagree. To my understanding it seems that the understanding is the term is not gender specific. But there is a large community of males that use the term on Tiktok to refer to other males. But honestly it’s a term that just refers to someone who is fanatic about another person. So much so that they want to support their someone anyway they can in a desperate hope to be noticed and hopefully get a reward for “good behavior”.

Someone who does way too much for a person they like

That’s more like it. I’d also like to take a moment to educate the populace on the actual term and it’s usage through time. For a quick summary, rap songs in the 90s-2000s used the term. Not to mention simp is a shortened version of simpleton which was most commonly used in the early 1900s. If you’d like to read the article, here’s the link!

But it’s best to get use to seeing them in the comment section of your favorite twitch streamer or instagram influencer with heart emojis and bad flirting. Never forget they are there and that they are serious. They are known to have short fuses and blow up your notifications with love for the person and hate for you. If you think you may have a simp in your socials, please thread carefully.
